Dear COFESA Member,

PROPOSED LABOUR LEGISLATION AND MEMBERSHIP FEE ADJUSTMENT

We would like to thank you for your continued support over the past year. This letter contains important information regarding your membership and proposed amendments to the Labour Legislation.

The Department of Labour released proposed amendments to the Labour Legislation Bills dated 12 December 2010.

This will have vast implications for employers, and we have until 16 February 2011 to make submissions to the Department regarding these bills and the proposed Employment Services Bill.

These proposals include harsh penalties that will range from percentages of turnover (up to 10 % if you do not stick to Employment Equity targets) to fines (from R10 000,00) and possible arrest.

Please make your submissions to us and we will include it in our correspondence to government. The existing triparty alliance does not include an employers’ component and COFESA aims to rectify this.

As we have not augmented our premiums for the past two years, your membership premium will be adjusted by R15 from 1 March 2011 to accommodate the above costs and will be automatically deducted from the specified bank account.

We will also be hosting workshops nationally to inform members regarding the proposed legislation and to give feedback to employers.
