Through good and bad, easy but mostly difficult times, Martin Steen has served Cofesa, our members and country well with his superb intellect, sharp mind, excellent memory and wisdom.

Our members benefited from his high level corporate expertise. He saved many businesses and jobs by handling more or less 15 000 emails and 12 000 to 15 000 telephone calls per year.

With endless patience he edited and ‘tidied up’ the numerous submissions that we have made to government to alleviate the burden of socialist laws that destroyed millions of jobs and increased unemployment to 10m. The seeds are in the soil and will bear fruit in the new season.

From Cofesa members and our regional offices and from your colleagues, we wish him many more years of good health, more grandchildren and bird sightings.

As a colleague, a friend and as an avid birder, your legacy lives on.

May God bless and keep you, Leah and your loved ones.

On the hotline in his place we welcome Etienne van Wyk. Members and consultants can look forward to share in his extensive HR and IR experience, training and high level corporate exposure. We wish him well.

Gold Award – Martin’s valued input enabled us to be awarded gold in ROCCI’s business of the year competition.

And so the ‘big’ day has arrived at last and it is now time to bid a fond farewell to all my hard-working colleagues at COFESA. Thank you for all the fun times that we have had together over the years and for putting up with my nonsense on a daily basis. You are all good people and I will miss you greatly. I leave you with an Irish blessing: –

May the Road always rise up to meet you,

May the Wind always be at your back,

May the Sun shine warmly upon your face,

May the Rain fall softly on your head, and

May the Lord hold you in the palm of his hand.

Until we meet again

Tot siens, Mooi bly!

Martin Steen
