The role of the governing body and the oversight it undertakes has been the subject of much scrutiny in the recent past. Within this context, the Corporate Governance Network (“CGN”) has identified three key themes for governing bodies to consider when conducting their activities, namely the need to ‘look within’; ‘look outwards’ and realise its place within society in ‘rebuilding trust’.

When governing bodies ‘look within’ they must be cognisant of the fact that the skills that make excellent professionals, experts or executives, do not necessarily result in effective governing body members. Fortunately, director mentorship progammes have proven to be a valuable tool to assist governing body members gain the skills needed and maximise their contribution to the governing body.

Join the IoDSA’s CGN for a panel discussion on the key issues facing governing bodies and what to consider in relation to director mentorship.
